Applying your Tattoo

1. Prime Area

Clean the desired tattoo area. Apply a penny-sized amount of “Primer Gel” to the designated spot and rub thoroughly into the skin. Wait 10 minutes or until dry.

2. Peel & Stick

Remove the paper backing from the tattoo patch. Firmly place the tattoo on the primed location and flatten out any bubbles. Wait and do something boring for 1 - 2 hours.

3. Remove Patch

Gently peel the patch away. The tattoo will start appearing in several hours. Avoid washing or showering the tattooed area before it develops for best results. Enjoy your ink!

Avoid Applying to These Areas

  • Avoid overly hairy areas like legs, or shave 24 hours before application

This can cause the tattoo to smudge or not completely adhere to the skin

  • Avoid sweaty, oily, or wet skin

This can cause the tattoo to smudge or smear

  • Avoid areas that will move or crease

Placements like elbows can cause the tattoo to smudge or smear. Flat surfaces are best.

  • Avoid scars or stretch marks

These areas rejuvenate skin cells slower than normal and can reject the ink.

  • Avoid face and neck

We strongly recommend against applying tattoos to the face and neck. The skin is too sensitive and increases the chance of a reaction.

Detailed Guide

Preparation Before Application

  • Smooth Surface is Key: Choose an area with little to no hair for best results.
  • Shave if Necessary: Shave the area at least 24 hours in advance to avoid irritation and ensure proper adhesion.
  • Select a Flat Area: Apply the tattoo to a part of the body that doesn't stretch or fold easily. This prevents creasing and ensures a clean, smooth finish.

Applying the Tattoo

  • Ensure Full Contact: When applying the tattoo patch, press firmly and evenly across the entire surface. This helps the ink transfer smoothly and ensures that no part of the design is left out.
  • Stay Dry and Cool: While the tattoo is setting (usually 2 hours), avoid activities that cause sweating or expose the patch to water. Sweat or moisture can smudge the design, leading to a blurred or incomplete result.

Aftercare Tips

  • Gentle Handling After Removal: Once the patch is removed, allow a few hours before showering. When you do, skip the soap over the tattooed area for the first day to protect the design. Keep it away from high heat sources like saunas or hot tubs to prevent early fading.
  • Blurry or Incomplete Tattoos: If parts of your tattoo appear blurry or incomplete, it may be due to improper patch application or sweating during the setting process. Make sure you're applying it on a clean, dry surface next time.

What If I Leave the Patch On Too Long?

  • Extended Time on Skin: If you accidentally leave the patch on for longer than recommended, it's usually okay. While this increases the chance of sweat exposure, if sweat hasn't interfered, you might find the tattoo turns out slightly darker than expected.

Managing Skin/Allergic Reactions

  • Mild Redness: Sometimes, the skin may appear slightly red after the patch is removed. This is usually temporary and fades within a few hours or days. Clean the area with lukewarm water and apply a soothing cream if needed.
  • Handling Allergic Reactions: Though rare, allergic reactions can occur. If you notice itching or irritation, apply an over-the-counter cortisone cream and avoid scratching the area. Cool showers can help soothe the skin. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare professional.

Tattoo Longevity

  • How Long Will It Last? Your BlackInk tattoo should last about 2 weeks, depending on where it's placed and your skin's exposure to sweat or harsh cleansers.
  • Swimming and Bathing: While it's best to avoid submerging the tattoo during the setting process, once it's fully developed, normal water exposure is fine. Just be mindful of excessive sweat or scrubbing, which can cause fading.

Removing or Fading Your Tattoo

  • Natural Fading: Your tattoo will fade away at the normal rate of skin regeneration. This is normally tied to your age (younger = faster skin regeneration), but can also be affected by your skin type and the placement of the tattoo.
  • Faster Fading: If you want your tattoo to fade more quickly, try gently exfoliating the area or sitting in a dry sauna. Heat and sweat can help break down the ink. You can also use makeup to cover it temporarily.
